2019 America the Beautiful Quarters® Program – War in the Pacific National Historical Park Rolls and Bags
The War in the Pacific National Historical Park quarter is the third in 2019 and 48th overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program.
The westernmost of all the National Park Service sites, War in the Pacific National Historical Park was established in 1978 to commemorate the bravery, courage, and sacrifice of those participating in the campaigns of the Pacific Theater of World War II. The park also conserves and interprets a variety of amazing resources found on the Island of Guam. War in the Pacific National Historical Park has the highest biological diversity of any national park, with both underwater and land areas. Snorkeling, fishing, and exploring coral reefs are among the popular recreational activities its visitors enjoy.
Perhaps the most iconic memorial in the park is the Asan Bay Overlook. In addition to sweeping views of the landing beaches, Apra Harbor, and seaside villages, there are bronze sculptures depicting events that took place on Guam. The Memorial Wall of Names lists the military personnel killed, as well as local residents who lost their lives or suffered during the Japanese occupation.
The reverse (tails) design portrays American forces coming ashore at Asan Bay, strengthening the number of troops on the island in the fight for Guam and its eventual liberation. Inscriptions are "WAR IN THE PACIFIC," "GUAM," "2019," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
