The Shimon Peres 3 Inch Bronze Medal is a bronze duplicate of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded to Shimon Peres on June 25, 2014, at a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol Building in recognition of his many achievements.

The obverse features a portrait of Israeli President Shimon Peres with a flag of Israel in the background. “SHIMON PERES” is the inscription.

The reverse depicts a dove of peace with the inscription “YOU ARE AS GREAT AS THE CAUSE YOU SERVE.”

Shimon Peres was born in Poland in 1923. The Peres family emigrated to Tel Aviv in 1934, and all of the family members who remained in Poland were murdered during the Holocaust.

Before Israel gained independence, Peres earned the respect of senior leaders in the independence movement in Israel, most notably David Ben-Gurion. The founding generation of Israel was central to the development of Israel, and he is the only surviving member of that generation.

Peres has served in numerous cabinet positions and ministerial posts in Israel, including Head of the Israeli Navy, Minister of Defense, Foreign Minister, Prime Minister and President, among others.

Peres has honorably served Israel for more than 70 years, during which he has made significant contributions to American interests and played a pivotal role in forging the strong and unbreakable bond between the U.S. and Israel.

The U.S. Mint produces national medals—selective awards authorized by Congress—to commemorate significant historical events of the Nation, or to honor those persons whose superior deeds and achievements have enriched our history, or the world.

When legislation permits, bronze duplicates (90% copper, 10% zinc), or "List Medals," are struck for sale to the public. Some are produced as part of a continuing series, such as the Presidents of the United States, Secretaries of the Treasury, Directors of the Mint, and Historic Buildings of the United States.
