The 2018 America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin™— Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore 2018 (Michigan) is the first release of 2018 in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. The reverse (tails) design features Chapel Rock and the white pine tree that grows atop. Inscriptions include "PICTURED ROCKS," "MICHIGAN," "2018," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."

Established in 1966 as the first national lakeshore, it is a narrow strip of a park that hugs the Lake Superior coast for more than 40 miles. The shoreline consists of 200-foot high colorful sandstone cliffs, numerous beaches, and 300-foot tall sand dunes. The shoreline is bordered by boreal and eastern hardwood forests with numerous waterfalls, streams, and backcountry lakes.

Scenic vistas and more than 100 miles of trails offer visitors superb opportunities for hiking, backpacking, camping, and sightseeing. Lake Superior and inland lakes offer boating opportunities, including kayaking, canoeing, and boat tours along the cliffs (the only way for visitors to view the cliffs is from the water). There is abundant wildlife, such as black bear, deer, and porcupine, as well as bald eagles and peregrine falcons dotting the skies. While none of these species is unique to the park, you will see both bald eagles and peregrine falcons perched on the Pictured Rocks cliffs. The falcons nest on the cliffs, while the eagles nest in the trees at the top of the cliffs.
