John Tyler was the 10th U.S. President, serving from April 6, 1841, to March 3, 1845. He was the first Vice President to succeed to the Presidency after the death of his predecessor.
The obverse (heads) of the medal features a portrait of John Tyler with the inscriptions “JOHN TYLER,” “PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.” and “1841” along the border of the medal.
The reverse (tails) of the medal features the inscription “PEACE AND FRIENDSHIP,” symbolized by two hands clasped in token of amity. On the cuff of the left wrist are three stripes and buttons; the other wrist is bare. Above the hands, the pipe of peace and the tomahawk are crossed over each other.
