At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Jesse Owens, a Black American track and field athlete, won four gold medals in a stadium packed with Nazi supporters and Adolf Hitler himself, dispelling the myth of Aryan Supremacy as the world watched. Jesse was immediately catapulted to world-wide fame and became a symbol of hope in the darkness of the Nazi regime. This was not Jesse’s only moment of glory — he was also responsible for what some call “the greatest 45-minutes in sports” when he broke five world records in 45 minutes and matched a sixth at the Big Ten Championships in 1935. Outside of his athletic career, Jesse continued to serve his country and inspire others when he was appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1955.

Jesse Owens was posthumously awarded a Congressional Gold Medal, the highest form of national appreciation, in recognition of his “humanitarian contributions to public service, civil rights, and international goodwill.” Honor Jesse Owens’ legacy of perseverance and equality with a bronze replica of his Congressional Gold Medal, expertly crafted by the United States Mint.
