Commemorative Coin Program
March 2019 marks 100 years of service for The American Legion, the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization.
In 1919, members of The American Expeditionary Forces occupying Europe after World War I founded an organization focused on service to veterans, servicemembers and communities. The American Legion was incorporated by Congress that same year as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness.
The American Legion was founded on four pillars: Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children and Youth. These pillars guide The American Legion’s mission today, encompassing a variety of programs.
The United States Mint honors The American Legion’s milestone with the 2019 American Legion 100th Anniversary Commemorative Coins. The richly detailed three-coin program includes a silver dollar, a $5 gold coin and a clad half dollar struck in proof and uncirculated finishes. Each denomination showcases a design memorializing The American Legion’s founding as well as its commitment to our Nation.
Available March 14, 2019.
