Barack Obama (First Term) Bronze Medal

Americans elected Barack Obama in 2008, making him the Nation’s first Black President. Obama entered the Presidency during the Great Recession, the largest economic downturn since the Great Depression in 1929. Just 28 days after his inauguration, the new President signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, providing much needed support to the weakened economy. This quick response created millions of jobs and spurred the modernization of America’s electrical power grid and strengthened the Nation’s cybersecurity readiness in the digital age.
President Obama also took measures to prevent another economic crisis, signing the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which provided additional protection for American families and more oversight for Wallstreet. In 2010, Obama passed the Affordable Care Act, a sweeping healthcare reform which provided millions of Americans with new access to affordable medical insurance and services.
Before and during his Presidency Obama advocated for communication and cooperation across tense national, ethnic, and political borders, pushing for an easing of tensions between the United States and the Middle East after years of war. For his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples” Barack Obama became the 4th U.S. President to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
This bronze medal commemorates the first Presidential term of Barack Obama. It was expertly crafted by the United States Mint.
