Abraham Lincoln Presidential Silver Medal
Abraham Lincoln, known as “The Great Emancipator” and 16th President of the United States, led the Nation through one of its greatest crises, the Civil War. In 1863, Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, declaring that all enslaved people in any State “shall be then, thencefoward, and forever free” – a defining moment in American history. Lincoln was an exceptional orator, delivering some of the Nation’s most revered speeches, including the famed Gettysburg Address. Just one week after the end of the Civil War Abraham Lincoln was shot at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. When he died a few hours later, Secretary of War Edwin Stanton understanding Lincoln's legacy stated “Now he belongs to the ages.”
