2010 First Spouse Series One-Half Ounce Gold Proof Coin – Mary Todd Lincoln (X68)
This is the fourth coin released in 2010 in the First Spouse Gold Coin Series and features Mary Todd Lincoln, the wife of President Abraham Lincoln. It is a one-half ounce 24-karat gold coin struck in proof condition, giving it a frosted foreground and a mirror-like background. The obverse features a portrait of Mary Todd Lincoln and the reverse depicts her bringing wounded Union soldiers flowers and books. This coin is encapsulated and packaged in a custom-designed, highly polished, dome-chested, lacquered hardwood presentation case accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the Director of the United States Mint.

Mintage limits have been reduced for the 2010 First Spouse Series One-Half Ounce Gold Coins. The Mary Todd Lincoln First Spouse Gold Coins have a maximum mintage of 20,000 across all product options. The ratio of proof coins to uncirculated coins will be determined by customer demand within the total maximum issuance of 20,000.

This marks the fourth year of the First Spouse Gold Coin Series, the United States Mint’s first coin program to feature our Nation’s first spouses. A minimum of four one-half ounce, $10 24-karat gold coins will be minted and released annually in the order the spouses served in the position. The coins are minted in proof and uncirculated condition and are available individually. Each First Spouse Gold Coin coincides with the release of the corresponding circulating Presidential $1 Coin. In 2010, the United States Mint will release four coins in the series - Abigail Fillmore, Jane Pierce, Buchanan’s Liberty and Mary Todd Lincoln.
The obverse of this coin was designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill. The reverse was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Master Designer Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill.
