In recognition of the bicentennial of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth and 100th anniversary of the first issuance of the Lincoln Cent, the United States Mint is minting and issuing four new one-cent coins available in two-roll sets. This is the first of four new reverse designs for the one-cent coin in 2009. Each two-roll coin set consists of one roll of 50 coins produced at the United States Mint at Philadelphia and Denver facilities. The newly minted one-cent coins produced at the United States Mint facility at Philadelphia do not have a mint mark; however, the coins produced at the Denver facility display the “D” mint mark for Denver.
These one-cent coins are also in circulating condition and can be used in daily transactions. Because these coins have never been circulated, they make a great addition to your private collection or a wonderful gift for someone special. These historic coins are available for a limited time only.

The 16th President of the United States of America, Abraham Lincoln successfully led the Nation out of the Civil War, preserving the Union and ending slavery. In recognition of his role as President, an image of Lincoln, designed by Victor D. Brenner, has been featured on the one-cent coin since 1909, the 100th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth. The first of the four new reverse designs represents the “Birthplace” of President Lincoln, reflecting his birth and early childhood in LaRue County, Kentucky. Named after his paternal grandfather, Abraham Lincoln was born in a log cabin on February 12, 1809.
The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE CENT and 1809 also appear on the reverse. The obverse will continue to bear the familiar likeness of President Lincoln currently on the one-cent coin.
