This medal is a bronze duplicate of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded Ho-Chunk Nation Code Talkers at a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol Building on November 20, 2013, in recognition of their dedication and valor. The medal measures 1.5” in diameter.

The obverse design features a code talker communicating a message. Inscriptions are HO-CHUNK NATION CODE TALKERS and WOINUX?? HITÉTÉ, which translates to “talking secretly.”

The reverse design features a variation of the Ho-Chunk Nation seal, which includes an eagle, bear, peace pipe and war club. An outline of Wisconsin is also included, signifying the tribe’s historical attachment to the state. Inscriptions are WORLD WAR II, SOUTH PACIFIC and ACT OF CONGRESS 2008.

The Code Talkers Recognition Act of 2008 authorized the United States Mint to strike and issue medals to provide the recognition deserved by Native American Code Talkers for their dedication and valor in World Wars I and II. The heroic and dramatic contributions of Native American Code Talkers were instrumental in driving back Axis forces and securing the United States’ victories.
