This medal is a bronze duplicate of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded to Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Code Talkers at a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol Building on November 20, 2013, in recognition of their dedication and valor. The medal measures 1.5” in diameter.

The obverse design depicts a World War I soldier sitting in a trench while receiving a message over his field telephone. In the lower field, a World War II soldier sits in a deciduous forest while communicating messages. It is inscribed as follows: “WAKPA WASTE OYANKE AKICITA ZUYA IYASICA,” Cheyenne River Sioux language for "good river soldiers fight the enemy, and “LAKOTA CODE TALKERS.

The reverse design features elements from the Cheyenne River Sioux flag and four tipis with buffalos imposed on it. Inscriptions are WORLD WAR I, WORLD WAR II and ACT OF CONGRESS.

The Code Talkers Recognition Act of 2008 authorized the United States Mint to strike and issue medals to provide the recognition deserved by Native American Code Talkers for their dedication and valor in World Wars I and II. The heroic and dramatic contributions of Native American Code Talkers were instrumental in driving back Axis forces and securing the United States’ victories.
