This medal is a bronze duplicate of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded to Comanche Nation Tribe Code Talkers at a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol Building on November 20, 2013, in recognition of their dedication and valor. The medal measures 3” in diameter.

The obverse design features the Comanche Code and Spirit Talker Monument located at Comanche Nation headquarters. Inscriptions are COMANCHE CODE TALKERS and NUMUNU, Comanche language for “people.”

The reverse design features the Comanche Nation logo, the 90th Infantry Division insignia on the left and the 4th Infantry Division insignia on the right. Inscriptions are PUHIHWITEKWA EKASAHPANA, WORLD WAR I, WORLD WAR II and ACT OF CONGRESS 2008. According to the Comanche Nation, when loosely interpreted, “puhihwitekwa ekasahpana”means “soldiers talking on phones made of metal.”

The Code Talkers Recognition Act of 2008 authorized the United States Mint to strike and issue medals to provide the recognition deserved by Native American Code Talkers for their dedication and valor in World Wars I and II. The heroic and dramatic contributions of Native American Code Talkers were instrumental in driving back Axis forces and securing the United States’ victories.
