The White Mountain National Forest quarter is the first of 2013 and the 16th overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. This set consists of 120 quarters – one roll of 40 quarters with the “S” mint mark for San Francisco, one roll of 40 quarters with the “P” mint mark for Philadelphia and one roll of 40 quarters with the “D” mint mark for Denver.
The reverse design depicts Mt. Chocorua, the easternmost peak of the Sandwich Range, framed by birch trees. It is an iconic view of the White Mountain National Forest system lands. Inscriptions are WHITE MOUNTAIN, NEW HAMPSHIRE, 2013 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Design candidates were developed in consultation with representatives of White Mountain National Forest.
White Mountain National Forest, located in both New Hampshire and Maine, provides unique and strikingly beautiful landscapes and is one of America’s most visited national forests for its wide array of recreational opportunities and rich natural resources. The White Mountain National Forest includes unique features such as Mt. Washington, the highest peak north of the Smokey Mountains and east of the Mississippi. It was first established as a national forest on May 16, 1918 (40 Stat. 1779).
Please note: United States Mint coins are rolled by an automated machine process and not by hand; thus, we cannot guarantee that the obverse (heads side) or reverse (tails) of a coin will be at either end of a coin roll.
The United States Mint launched the America the Beautiful Quarters Program in 2010. The 12-year initiative includes 56 quarters featuring reverse designs depicting some of our most cherished national parks and other national sites. The United States Mint will issue five new quarter designs per year, with one final design in 2021.
