This 2013 Theodore Roosevelt Presidential $1 Coin 25-Coin Roll contains 25 circulating quality coins minted at the United States Mint at Philadelphia that have never been placed into circulation.
These coins’ designs display large, dramatic artwork and edge-incused inscriptions of the year, E PLURIBUS UNUM and the mint mark. Each coin features a likeness of Roosevelt and has a common reverse design featuring a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty.
The design inscriptions on the obverse (heads side) of the 2013 Theodore Roosevelt $1 Coin are:
- THEODORE ROOSEVELT
- IN GOD WE TRUST
- 26th PRESIDENT
Theodore Roosevelt was born in New York City in 1858. He was lieutenant colonel of the Rough Riders Regiment during the Spanish-American War and was elected governor of New York in 1898. He became President upon the death of William McKinley in 1901 and served nearly two terms. While President, Roosevelt took an active interest in the design of American coinage, personally commissioning renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens to redesign the “double eagle” ($20) gold coin. He left office in 1909 but ran again in 1912 on the Progressive (“bull moose”) Party ticket. The former President died in 1919.
Please note: United States Mint coins are rolled by an automated machine process and not by hand; thus, we cannot guarantee that the obverse (heads side) or reverse (tails) of a coin will be at either end of a coin roll.
In 2005, President Bush signed the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005 authorizing the United States Mint to strike $1 coins honoring America’s Presidents in the order in which they served. This coin, the 26th in the Presidential $1 Coin Program, honors President Theodore Roosevelt.
