As part of the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, the United States Mint introduced the America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Sets to honor the Nation’s national parks and other national sites.

Each three-coin set features an uncirculated quarter from the United States Mint at Philadelphia, an uncirculated quarter from the United States Mint at Denver and a proof quarter from the United States Mint at San Francisco with images specific to each national site. The coins are held in a durable plastic card that features a picturesque image and a brief description of the site and the coin, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity on the back of the card.

The America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set is also available through the United States Mint’s Online Subscription Program. Visit our Subscriptions page for more information.

The America the Beautiful Quarters Program features designs depicting national parks and other national sites. Each year five new national site designs are depicted on the reverse (tails) of the America the Beautiful Quarters. The United States Mint will issue these quarters in the order in which the honored sites were established as national sites.

Each coin in the series features a common obverse (heads) of the 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, which has been restored to bring out subtle details and the beauty of the original model.

Fort McHenry - the birthplace of our country’s national anthem - was named for James McHenry, our Nation’s second Secretary of War. Following the burning of the Nation’s capital in August 1814, British forces attacked Baltimore. Francis Scott Key, a poet-lawyer, witnessed the September 13-14 bombardment of Fort McHenry while under British guard on an American truce ship in the Patapsco River. Seeing his country’s flag still flying over the fort the next morning, he was moved to pen “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine is a coastal star-shaped fort located at the Baltimore Harbor.

The reverse design of the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine quarter represents the site during the “Defenders Day” celebration, considered the centerpiece annual event held at Fort McHenry. The fireworks symbolize the “rocket’s red glare,” linking the fort to its historic past.
