First Spouse Bronze Medal Set: This four-medal set includes one each of the 2011 1-5/16-inch First Spouse Bronze Medals, which bear the likenesses of this year’s First Spouse Gold Coins. The medals are packaged in Mylar®, inserted into a folded card containing product information, and placed in a custom-made envelope. The four medals in this set feature Eliza Johnson, Julia Grant, Lucy Hayes and Lucretia Garfield.

This is the fifth year of the First Spouse Gold Coin Series. This series features images of the Nation’s first spouses on one-half ounce, 24-karat $10 gold coins, issued in the order they served as first spouse.

Eliza Johnson: The obverse (heads side), designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart, features a portrait of Eliza Johnson. The reverse (tails), designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Associate Designer Gary Whitley and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill, depicts three children dancing and a Marine Band fiddler playing at the children’s ball that was held for President Johnson’s 60th birthday.

Julia Grant: The obverse, designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Donna Weaver and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Michael Gaudioso, features a portrait of Julia Grant. The reverse, designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Richard Masters and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Charles L. Vickers, depicts a young Julia Dent and Ulysses S. Grant horseback riding at her family’s plantation, White Haven.

Lucy Hayes: The obverse, designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Susan Gamble and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart, features a portrait of Lucy Hayes. The reverse, designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Associate Designer Barbara Fox and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna, depicts her participation in the first Easter Egg Roll held at the White House.

Lucretia Garfield: The obverse, designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Associate Designer Barbara Fox and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill, features a portrait of Lucretia Garfield. The reverse, designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Michael Gaudioso, represents her interest in art and features her painting on a canvas with brush and palette in hand.
