Beginning in 2010, the United States Mint is issuing new quarter-dollars featuring national site designs depicted on the reverse (tails side) of the coins. A restored version of the familiar 1932 John Flanagan portrait of George Washington will be featured on the obverse (heads) of each coin. The 2010 United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set, the first annual set of this exciting series, contains five coins each struck in lustrous 90 percent silver which honor Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas; Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming; Yosemite National Park in California; Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona; and Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon.
This set is a shining example of the United States Mint’s commitment to quality and excellence.

Program Information:
United States Mint proof coins are extraordinarily brilliant, with sharp relief and a mirror-like background. Their frosted, sculpted foregrounds give them a special cameo effect. Proof blanks are specially treated, polished and cleaned to ensure high quality strikes. The blanks are then fed into presses fitted with specially polished dies and struck at least twice to ensure sharp relief. The coins are then packaged in a protective lens to showcase and maintain their exceptional finish.
