2009 Lincoln Cent Two-Roll Set “Professional Life” (LP3)

Price: $8.95

Sold Out

Third in the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial One Cent Program, the “Professional Life” design is now available in two-roll sets. The reverse design depicts Abraham Lincoln as a young professional standing in front of the old state capitol building in Springfield, Ill. It includes the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and ONE CENT, and was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart.

This set is comprised of 100 coins -- one roll of 50 coins minted at the United States Mint at Philadelphia (no mint mark) and one roll of 50 coins minted at the United States Mint at Denver (“D” mint mark). Each coin roll is wrapped with special United States Mint coin paper depicting the new designs, a “P” or “D” representing the roll’s mint of origin and “50¢,” representing its face value. These rolls contain one-cent coins used in regular commercial transactions. However, because these coins have never been circulated, they also make a great addition to your private collection or a wonderful gift for someone special. These historic coins are available for a limited time only.

In April 1837, Abraham Lincoln settled in the new Illinois state capital, Springfield, where he met and married Mary Todd. Their first child, Robert Todd Lincoln, was born in August 1843. Lincoln won election to the U.S. House of Representatives as a member of the Whig Party in 1846.

Illinois Senator Stephen Douglas was up for re-election in 1858, and in June the state Republican convention nominated Lincoln for the seat. The series of famous Lincoln-Douglas debates took place that fall, and while he did not win the seat, Lincoln's logic, moral fervor, elegant language and debating skills transformed him into a national figure. At the 1860 Republican convention, he secured the nomination for President and was elected that fall.
