2014 America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set™ — Great Sand Dunes National Park &ndash P, D and S. The Great Sand Dunes National Park quarter is the fourth of 2014 and the 24th overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.
The reverse design features a father and son playing in the sand next to the creek bed. The distinctive mountains and sand dunes are featured in the background. Inscriptions are “GREAT SAND DUNES, COLORADO, 2014” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
Each three-coin set features an uncirculated quarter from the U.S. Mint at Philadelphia, an uncirculated quarter from the U.S. Mint at Denver and a proof quarter from the U.S. Mint at San Francisco, with images specific to each national site. The coins are held in a durable plastic card that features a picturesque image and a brief description of the site and the coin, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity on the back of the card.
Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve has the tallest dunes in North America as the centerpiece of the site’s diverse landscape of grasslands, wetlands, conifer and aspen forests, alpine lakes, and tundra. These can be experienced through hiking, sand sledding, splashing in Medano Creek and watching wildlife. The Great Sand Dunes National Park was first established as a national site on March 17, 1932 (47 Stat. 2506).
As part of the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program, the U.S. Mint introduced the America the Beautiful Quarters Three–Coin Sets to honor the Nation’s national parks and other national sites.
The America the Beautiful Quarters® Program features designs depicting national parks and other national sites. Each year, five new national site designs are depicted on the reverse (tails) of the America the Beautiful Quarters. The U.S. Mint will issue these quarters in the order in which the honored sites were established as national sites.
Each coin in the series features a common obverse (heads) of the 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, restored to bring out subtle details and the beauty of the original model.
The America the Beautiful Quarters Three–Coin Set™ is also available through the United States Mint Online Product Enrollment Program. Visit our Product Enrollments page for more information.
